Inner City and Youth Initiatives Committee
Chair: Alex Moroz
Summary: The ICYIC meets bi-monthly on the second Thursday of the month at 8:00 am at Dodsworth & Brown Funeral Home. The focus of the committee is to make a positive difference for the inner city children, youth and families of Hamilton. The committee works with community groups and partners to develop projects and initiatives to benefit the community. The committee continues to work on several on-going projects including the Summer Literacy Program run by Robert Blunsden. Our partnership with Cathy Wever School continues to grow.

We were instrumental in the creation of the Wever Hub in collaboration with the Hamilton Community Foundation and the United Way in the implementation of a one-on-one reading program. We’ve helped establish and fund a daily nutrition program, parents’ group, after school programs, Rick Broadfoot book cart, and the Cathy Wever Trip Fund. One of our most popular events is the annual Cathy Wever Christmas Party where we see over 750 students and teachers enjoy a Christmas celebration with a hot turkey lunch, entertainment and goodies.
